Options for Working People for doing Engineering Diploma or Degree.
1. Regular Diploma or B.E. or Tech. Course through UGC recognized university
This is best option. You can become student of any university which is full time university and which is UGC recognized. Attending lectures and practicals will be difficult for people working in day time. Anyway, people working in Evening or Night can attend lectures and practicals. As per Supreme Court order full time regular university does not require AICTE approval. So any university, which is UGC recognized, and which is offering your desired course will be helpful.
2. Part Time Diploma or B.E. or Tech. Course through UGC recognized university
This is best option for working people. Usually part time program classes are in late evening or early morning or week ends. The schedule of lectures and practicals depends on University.
3. Distance Education in Engineering
Government has stopped distance as well as on-line education in technical field or engineering. So students should not do engineering through distance mode. IGNOU, YCMOU, KSOU and all others have stopped engineering courses through distance mode. Be careful and don’t join any such course.
4. AMIE – Institution of Engineers (IE) conducts Examination which it terms as Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (AMIE) and considers equivalent to Bachelor Degree in Engineering.
AMIE is not diploma or degree. It is not recognized as B.E. or B.Tech degree. It is technical or associate membership of Institution. IE considers it equivalent to B.E. or B.Tech but many Universities don’t consider it as equivalent and so they don’t allow such candidates for higher technical education like M.E. or M.Tech.
IE says that “UGC recommends” but it does not say “UGC recognised”. IE says that AICTE approval is not required by it. IE does not say that AMIE is AICTE approved. This shows that it is not UGC nor AICTE recognized.
Anyway AMIE is considered OK for promotion in some Govt jobs thru MHRD notification.
AMIE has very vast syllabus demands lot of studies. Papers of AMIE are considered tough and results of AMIE are approximately 3% or less i.e. 3 out of 100 pass, others fail.
No UGC and No AICTE recognition and poor results are the reason that most of candidates don’t prefer AMIE.
5. IME (Institution of Mechanical Engineers)
IME is like AMIE. Recognition claimed by it is not very clear. It is also not UGC and not ACITE recognized. The equivalency of its technical and associate membership is also not accepted by many Universities for higher courses or academic jobs.
6. ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers)
ICE is like AMIE. Recognition claimed by it are not very clear. It is also not UGC and not ACITE recognized. The equivalency of its technical and associate membership is also not accepted by many Universities for higher courses or academic jobs.
Opt for First or Second option. These are best options.
