What is Diploma in Engineering?

It is basic course in Engineering. Candidates learns Engineering Science and Technology of his Interest.

What are objectives of course?

The objectives of course are –

  • to develop
  • technical education
  • to develop technical skills
  • to develop communication skills, mathematical skills, logical skills, project handling skills, other  engineering

What are different specializations?

  • Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Electronics, Info Tech, Mechanical, Telecommunication 
  • Aeronautics, Aerospace, Automobile, Cement, Construction, Instrumentation, Manufacturing, Marine, Mining, Production, Paints, Petrochemical, Plastics, Rubber, Shipping, Software Engineering, Web Design Engineering, others 

What is duration?

Diploma Duration is 3 Years. 3 Years full time Diploma is valid for Jr. Engineer or Trainee Engineer post in Govt. and Pvt. Sector and also valid for Higher Education B.E. or B.Tech. in Engineering. Diploma of shorter duration, like 1 year or 2 years diploma may not be valid for J.E. post or Higher Education.

Who can conduct Diploma in Engineering?

  • University recognized by UGC
  • Polytechnic under State Technical Board
  • Any Institute or College, recognized by AICTE 

What is Eligibility required?

Candidate must be minimum 10th Pass.

Is there any Exemption in Time Duration? What is Lateral Entry?

Candidate who has done Govt. Recognized 2 years ITI program, gets exemption of First Year. He gets admission directly into IInd year. This is called Lateral Entry.

Is there any Time Duration Exemption for 12th or HSC or Intermediate or 10+2 pass ?

Some Universities offer Lateral Entry into IInd year, if candidate has passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects. This is not followed by all. i.e. any university or technical board or college may allow Lateral Entry to HSC (PCM) candidate while any other university may not.

If a person has passed HSC in Arts or Commerce then what is rule?

He is allowed admission in first year of Diploma on the basis of his 10th.

If a person has passed B.A, B.Com. or B.Sc. then what is rule?

He is allowed admission in first year of Diploma on the basis of his 10th. In case he has HSC (PCM) then above rule of HSC (PCM) applies.

Is there any short-cut?

No, there is no short-cut. Beware of any such person who suggests short-cut. It may lead to a FAKE or FRAUD diploma and it is CRIME.

Is Distance Learning allowed and considered VALID for Diploma in Engineering?

Govt. of India, has stopped distance education in Engineering at Diploma as well as Degree Level. It is NOT  allowed. It is NOT VALID.

What all can be done after Diploma in Engineering?

  • Employment Govt. Job, Pvt. Job, Job Abroad, Industry
  • Self Employment, Entrepreneurship, Free Lance, Technical Projects
  • Business

What is the designation or post in Job for Diploma pass candidate?

3 years Engineering Diploma is valid for Jr. Engineer or Trainee Engineer post in Govt. or Pvt. sector. He may get promotions based on his experience.

Can he do Higher Education after completing his Diploma?

Yes. He will be eligible to do B.E. or B.Tech. in Engineering or any other bachelor degree after his Diploma.

What is FEE?

It varies. It ranges between 40,000 per year to 80,000 per year. Different colleges / universities may have
different fee structure.

If fees is HIGH then does it mean quality is high?

  • Not necessarily true. There may be college or university with high fees but low quality. 
  • Govt.Colleges and Universities are funded by Govt. and so fees is less. They are Govt. funded and they maintain required infrastructure. Infrastructure is also funded by Govt.
  • Pvt. Colleges or Universities may not funded by Govt. They may have to arrange or generate their own funds. And so the fee is usually high with them. Here quality is not directly related to fees, as claimed by many.
  • Quality of Education will depend on class room lectures, laboratories, practical sessions, syllabus, professors, company visits, off campus education tours, skill development sessions, college functions and programs, extracurricular activities etc. 

If a fees is LOW then does it mean quality is low?

  • Not necessarily true. There may be college or university with less fees but high quality. 
  • Other points same as above.
